Windshield ADAS Camera Recalibration

Alderfer Glass Offers Many Options for Windshield Recalibration

What is Recalibration?  What are Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS)?

Does your vehicle alert you when changing lanes? Can your vehicle sense another vehicle or object in front of you to avoid a collision? Is there a camera mounted on or near your windshield?

These are great new features, but they also can create some unique new challenges for glass replacement.  These front-facing cameras and sensor packages are part of your vehicle’s Advanced Driver Assistance System (or ADAS) and these systems are designed to protect vehicle occupants and your vehicle.

When glass breakage occurs and you need to have your windshield replaced, you will now likely need to have your safety system recalibrated as per the automaker or manufacturer standard.  Alderfer Glass has developed a multitude of industry service options to get this process completed quickly and affordably for you, and typically within the same business day.  We utilize automaker/dealer systems, third-party and in facility calibration procedures to makes sure your vehicle is recalibrated properly and to the proper spec.  This requirement may also affect what glass part(s) can be used to meet AGSC and ANSI standards, and to match automaker and OEM requirements for system function.  Rest assured, we are on top of it!

Know that each automaker and system is different, so there cannot be a one-size-fits-all approach to vehicle calibration. At Alderfer Glass we do what is right for your vehicle – period.  Your vehicle safety systems are designed to work as a coordinated system by alerting the driver to potential problems and avoiding collisions – they can help, warn and assist – and in some instances may affect the driving characteristics of the vehicle as you operate it.  Some examples include options like: lane departure warning, lane keep assist, lane centering, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian or object detection, forward collision avoidance, and more.  It is imperative that these systems be recalibrated properly and to the highest standard.

Recalibration does bring some change to the customer experience.  When you schedule with Alderfer Glass, you will be alerted by our trained staff if the vehicle needs recalibration services after glass replacement. At the time of your service, various methods will be employed to complete the recalibration required by your vehicle.  Please be aware that this will likely require additional time to complete.  Different manufacturers have different requirements, and your vehicle may need either a static or dynamic recalibration.  For some vehicles both types of calibration are required.

Types of Recalibration Explained:

  • Dynamic Recalibration – Requires driving the vehicle at mfg. recommended speeds and durations on well-marked roads to recalibrate the camera system.  Service takes up to one to three hour(s) or more, in addition to windshield install time, depending on the make and model of the vehicle.
  • Static Recalibration – Requires targets and special images mounted on a fixture with precision, in front of the vehicle during the recalibration process.  Typically takes one half business day, in addition to windshield install time, depending on the make and model of the vehicle.

Alderfer Glass provides both windshield replacement and recalibration service, ensuring our tradition and promise of fast and affordable service to you and your family that has been our standard since 1961.  We take your convenience seriously, but we also take your safety as a priority, so we will recommend the right solution for your vehicle each and every time.
